Walk Two Moons

Assignment #1 mini Cornel Lecture notes

The picture of the axe reminds us of Mrs. Cadaver because she uses an axe to chop down a tree and Pheobe thinks she killed her husband with an axe. That is why we used the picture on an axe to remind us of this story.

Assignment #2 Quotes, Quotes Quotes

Levi's Quotes:

" You cant stop the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair".

This quote connects to Phoebe because she is always sad now because her mom left, but she dosent need to be sad all the time so shes letting the sad birds nest in her hair.

This quote relates to me because my brother just left for the marines and I dont let sadness control my life.

"Life is like a box of choclates you never know wht your gonna get". by Forest Gump ( Tom Hanks)

I like this one because I like it because it means nobody really knows whats gonna happen in life.

Matias's quotes:

"In the course of a lifetime what does it really matter."

This quote has to do with Phoebe's habit of obsessing over things that don't really matter. Things that in several years she might not remember.

"Try? There is no try, there is only do and do not."- Yoda

I like this quote because it shows that if you are going to do something you either do or don't.

Hayley’s Quotes:

“Everyone has his own agenda”.

Walk two Moons

I thought this quote related to the book for various different reasons. One reason was that Phoebe’s mom never seemed happy with what she was doing. For example, Phoebe’s mom made dinner every night, and nobody helped or thanked her. They always depended on her to get everything done, and when she wasn’t there, they were kind of clueless on how to do anything. This is how I thought the quote related mostly to Phoebe’s mom.

How I thought this quote related to me was how I always have my own agenda. Meaning, that I am a different person and I am always doing something different from the others. For example, I used to take a art class outside of school, and at the time my friends would never think of anything like that. It was a fun experience and I learned a lot of things

“Never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game”.

- The Cinderella Story

This quote has a great meaning behind it. What it means to me is, “try hard and never give up”. Which is a great motto to have, and to live by. This is also a great quote because in my life, I play a lot of sports, so when I don’t get something right, the first time, I’ll try again. Ever since I heard this quote, it made me stronger as team player, and to never give up and try your hardest to succeed.

Julia's quotes:

"Don't judge a man untill you've walked two moons in his moccasins"

-Walk two Moons

This quote relates to the story because Pheobe is allways making assumpions about people she's never met. She assums Mrs. Cadaver is an axe murder because her name means 'dead body'. Pheobe also assums Mrs. Cadaver is an axe murder because she doesn't know where Mr.Cadaver is and finally because Pheobe saw Mrs. Cadaver choping stuff up in her back yard with an axe.

This quote relates to my life because I try very hard not to judge people before I've known them for a while. I also get very annoyed when people who don't know me at all make assumptions about me. There is a lot more to people that what appears on the surface and a reason why people do things of act a certain way that without knowing them you could never know.

"Life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it"

-Charles Swindle

I like this quote because it is a positive way of looking at things and it lets you know that you control what happens to you, not anyone else. I have used this mind set before when someone has said something irritating to me and I have to choose whether to say something annoying back or brush of what they said and at least be polite.

How Land Was Created, written by Matias
In the beginning of time, the world was made of
water, the seabed and the molten core. Poseidon
refused to drain any of his kingdom to make room for
the human worshippers, even when ordered to by Zeus.
Hephaestus, in his frustration with Poseidon, threw a
hammer at the sea. It hit the sandy seabed and split
the earth, releasing the molten core! This first
volcano spat lava, which hardened into the first land.
Zeus, seeing the constructive nature of the volcano,
ordered more volcanoes to be made. Soon Hephaestus was
using a scythe to split the earth quickly and a hoe to
enlarge the gaps.
Poseidon tried to drown the land with a massive wave,
but that just washed plants and lakes ashore. This
made the land even more tempting for the humans to
live on. Poseidon then tried to freeze all the water,
but he made glaciers, which forged beautiful
mountains.
In one last desperate attempt to cleanse his ocean
world, Poseidon spun the winds and waters of the world
into one massive whirling, undulating disk. He threw
the hurricane at the land with all the destructive
force he could muster. The hurricane shredded
buildings, flooded temples, and tore up trees. But it
could not move over the land because the volcanoes and
mountains were blocking its path, so it dissipated.
Hephaestus harbored the people in his fiery mountains
and we have lived among them ever since.
